california modern that brings the outdoors in at every turn

This Eichler-inspired home is a perfect example of Modernist architecture and has come to be known as “California Modern”. These homes are inspired to bring the outdoors in with glass walls, post-and-beam exposed construction and open floor plans. This was a fun one to design!
Exposed beams run the span of the entire home from the exterior front yard and out to the backyard. They offer a beautiful architectural element and are extremely eye-catching.
We carried the exterior side of the house along the entire wall to the backyard for subtle textural architecture, connecting the outdoors in.
This two-way fireplace offers another connection between the outdoors and indoors. We tiled both the exterior and interior with the same tile to achieve a cohesive, tranquil look and feel.
We created the architectural feature in this kitchen by having our welder create this black, metal iron structure above the window in this minimalist kitchen. It was another way to highlight the gorgeous exposed beams while staying grounded by the structure. In the industry, we call the feeling this creates a “lid”.
This intentionally-designed Master bedroom draws the eye up the moment you enter with clerestory windows over the slider door. It also offers another opportunity for the outdoors to be welcomed in.
Each bathroom has an open skylight in which we wrapped the sides with a thin maple wood veneer for an added touch of detail.
This stunning and inviting two-way fireplace can be enjoyed from both the inside and outside.
The exterior elements are the same in both the front and backyard, as well as run throughout the house for a cohesive look that’s full of architectural interest and as well as timeless beauty.
